Shows the systems to encourage renewable heating are failing. When you are presented with a choice to spend £1,000 to replace your gas boiler or £9,000 to install a heat pump (with subsidies that pay back in 7 years), for most it’s clear cut, unless you have enthusiasm to cut carbon.
What people don’t understand is the long term savings, and durability of renewable systems, as well as the value add to house prices.
Banks need to step in to offer extensions to mortgages and repayment loans on sale of property, with this tied with offers from installers, and government must back such loans as well as offering better incentives, or there needs to be a carbon tax on new gas boiler sales. Discussions being had about electricity prices being had should also help.
So far to go to decarbonise heating in the UK!
