[Challenge] Low Carbon Transport

Hey Jess. I was just reading back through some older posts and wondered if you’d made a decision about the birthday in NY? It’s a really difficult one. We made a decision a couple of years ago not to fly - but I know that something like this would challenge me. I think that if it’s not something you’re doing all the time - and don’t forget, you can offset your carbon emissions (probably better to do it on one of the specialist places rather than just ticking the box and paying extra for the flight) - then you’re making a good compromise… (plus stay a bit longer and make it worth while if you can!!)

Hey Kerena, Thanks for getting in touch. It was a really difficult decision and it took me ages to figure out what to do but I finally decided to take the trip but extend it and make it into a family holiday and although I’m contradicting myself in that I really believe it is the time to just stop doing everything that we know destroys our planet and we’re all responsible and its an accumulative mass of similar decisions that have the impact - including my singular decision on this trip, I’m going out of my way to try and make up for it and don’t plan to fly again. I certainly will be offsetting my carbon emissions using an online app and I’m also trying to find as many ways in my own life to adapt my behaviour and my home, to reduce my carbon footprint / environmental impact, as well as trying to influence the people around me.

Hi Jess. I often have the conversation with people about whether what we do as individuals can really make a difference. As you say, we have to believe that the cumulative effect is what will change things. We have to keep talking about it and drawing people’s attention to it - but I guess that everyone on here knows that and our job is to grow this community and spread the word!
