Our mission is to make a Better Century, where improved use and sharing of resources creates an environment where all life thrives.

Our purpose is to:

  1. Mediate cooperation between an increasing number of people and organisations to improve sharing of resources.
  2. Facilitate mass uptake of innovative products and services that improve use of resources.
  3. Invest in new innovations, charities and campaigns that support our mission.

The first stage of development focuses on our first purpose, but quickly we will create frameworks to address the second and third.

We are established as a Community Interest Company to achieve our purpose. We operate for the benefit of the community which we serve, our members. To learn more, see our articles of association here.

Our members, those that agree to support our mission, will include people, charities, NGOs and other progressive organisations. The community will co-create the frameworks that support membership recruitment using referrals, recommendations and interest sharing through posts.

The Founders of Better Century are Tom Beckett (username Tommo) and Russell Stanley (user name russell), and may be contacted on the site or admin@bettercentury.org.

Frequently asked (or anticipated) questions

Who are members of Better Century?

Initially the membership of Better Century will be individuals.

The intention is to extend membership to NGOs, charities, and businesses who provide community preferred products or services. These organisations could increase the size of the community and help resource development. However, any development of the community, including the inclusion of other organisations, will aim to be done with the support of it’s current membership.

Can I volunteer to help Better Century grow?

If you have any ideas, please put a thread in the general forum to seek views of the community on the idea. The more you get involved in the site the more we will seek your opinion and help in areas such as discussion moderation.

One of the best ways you can help is to post what you’ve done and help others in finding solutions to their problems. After a few months we’ll invite you to participate in some closed discussions where volunteer opportunities will be made available.

We also need to grow the community, so please also help with that by getting your friends, family and colleagues to all sign up. You can even be recognised through the referral scheme we have in place (found here (if logged in)).

You can also create an event for Better Century. You could create a meetup of local members or potential members. We have some physical promotional material you can also use for this and to promote to people in person.

If you would like any more input on this, please write to admin@bettercentury.org.

How do I participate in decision making?

Participation will be requested of individuals or organisations who have contributed significantly to the development of the community. A closed digital forum will be used initially to gain views. Better Century then may seek to elect a committee creating a formal decision-making process.

Input will be sought on community development, funding and budgeting.

What are the phases of developing the community?

Our mission is to make a Better Century, where improved use and sharing of resources creates an environment where all life thrives. Our purpose is threefold: Mediate cooperation between an increasing number of people and organisations to improve sharing of resources. Facilitate mass uptake of innovative products and services that improve use of resources. Invest in new innovations, charities and campaigns that support our mission.

The first stage of development focuses on our first purpose, but quickly we will create frameworks to address the second and third with the input of the community.

Is it possible to become a shareholder of Better Century CIC?

At funding rounds we will seek investment so as to achieve our development goals. These rounds will reflect the phases of development.

Please note that Better Century is registered as a Community Interest Company with a current restriction of distributing only 35 percent of profits to its shareholders, therefore we will seek significant philanthropic support prior to selling shares.
